National and statewide comparison of Houston divorce rate

There are a variety of misconceptions about divorce harbored by people in Texas as well as across the United States. A prime example is the oft-cited “statistic” that about half of all marriages end in divorce. While this may have been true a decade or so ago, the reality is that the divorce rate has been falling in recent years. Generally speaking, the divorce rate is above 40% but not at 50% throughout most of the country. Younger people seem to be staying married more than their older counterparts.

Comparable divorce rates in Texas and in Houston

Texas does not have a particularly high divorce rate when contrasted with other states in the United States. In fact, Texas does not even land in the top 10 states with the highest divorce rates. Similarly, Houston is not marked with a particularly high divorce rate either. When contrasting the divorce rate in Houston with other Texas municipalities, Houston is not in the top 10.

Texas communities with the highest percentage of divorced residents

There are communities in Texas that have been reported as having the highest percentage of divorced residents living there. The following places are listed in descending order from the highest to the lowest percentage of divorced residents:

  • Sinton
  • Krum
  • Burnet
  • Paris
  • Crockett
  • Rusk
  • Slaton
  • Lacy-Lakeview
  • Gladewater
  • Cameron

Despite somewhat dropping divorce rates, if you find yourself in the position of ending your marriage, you are hardly alone. An important step to consider taking is retaining the services of an experienced Texas family law attorney to represent your legal interests and make the process go as smoothly as possible.
